I find this artists work very abstract and appealing. The way the artist is able to make the piece look as if its glowing in a way is very amazing.

SARA DI DONATOS
I really feel strongly about Sara Di Donatos work. Her
pieces are very interesting, usually of females that are quite flexible or
females that are in bizarre situations. She wants to capture girlhood in states of boredom, or interest that distract us from consciousness. The characters in her drawings are like beads of a necklace that complete each other as a whole, yet are individually their own.
I really enjoy Sara Di Donatos work because she focuses on women. That may be a bit biased but she is all about expressing females who are at different ages, doing various chores representing the past and the present. She is very focused on the subject matter of girl contortionists and girls doing bizarre chores and its very interesting to look at and examine.
In the first picture that i posted of her work, the girl seems to be disinterested in what she's doing while wearing a dress that is deteriorating away due to the fire. This is a very successful contrast. I love how she's able to bring such uniqueness to her drawings by throwing an emotion thats so bored and nonchalant, with a subject as hectic and scary as clothes being on fire. Now she explains that she usually draws her characters doing chores, so the girl in the picture seems to be wearing a dress that might be suitable for housework. This could possible be a peasant maid who looks to be at the point of quitting. The fire might symbolize all the chores and chaos that needs to be done and her bored emotion might symbolize her completely checking out of the situation.
In the second picture, the first think i noticed is the past and present aspect that the artist loves to incorporate in her pieces. Back in the day, ironing boards and ironing your clothes was quite popular. As was big wavy hair. I love that she made the contortionist use the iron to straighten the girls hair to fit the hairstyle that is very popular in the present. Straight hair has become a very common thing after the 80s perm died down a bit. I also really admire that she makes these woman seem to be very talented at multitasking. She really gives credit to woman's ability and again, empowers the female role. I didn't notice at first but the girl toward the bottom of the piece is shaving her legs while getting her hair straighten, symbolizing how busy woman's lives can be.
I've always found the human body so interesting when it comes to drawing and in my opinion,is one of my strongest points. I never thought to draw contortionists bodies because normally bodies cant move in such ways so this really inspires me to explore the different ways we can move our bodies and translate that into art. Im also a fan of color and wish we got to use color in drawing, it captures interest in its viewers with all the colors that Donatos uses and thats what originally turned me on to her unique series. In conclusion, her pieces gave me a huge amount of inspiration to continue my interest in drawing the human body.
